Airbrushing Hard Hats

18 days ago in Airbrushing

We have a new service!! We are finally offering airbrush services in our repertoire of skill sets. The rates and prices will be up soon when we are done with our very first automotive airbrush work. For now, if you are interested please email us.

This project is a group of 5 hard hats done for Evelyn. The hard hat is basically made out of ABS plastic and for the paint to adhere to the hats, we have to use a plastic primer on the surface first.

The base coat is done with acrylic paint. We have 2k paint for automotive which is more durable for these kinda products but we are planning to have brushwork on the surface as well and acrylic is easier to handle for this purpose. 2k paint is more toxic and challenging to handle. In our unpredictable weather, when it rains, we gotta stop working if we are using 2k paint as we could only do it in a  well ventilated area. Using acrylic paint for rush projects gives us the freedom to work indoors.

The hard hat is originally white and we sprayed a base layer of blue gradient to start off. After we airbrush the bigger details, we get our brushes and paint in the small details of the harbor and ship.

These helmets are for some government project located in Johor, if I am not mistaken.

Then we went to our friendly printing shop and get them to print out the logos. At this stage we put in all the finishing touches and carefully packed them for the journey to the lacquer shop.

After the lacquer is done, it is safe to handle and durable to last through any falls or unfortunate head banging. :p One little note though, we do not do any lacquering ourselves as the lacquer paint is extremely toxic and needs to be dried in an oven. We usually send them to automotive professionals for this final and crucial step.

3D perspective wall mural for VDC Sunway

23 days ago in Wall Mural

This was our most challenging job to date. Being an artist does not mean we are good draftsmen when it comes to architecture and perspective. Not only we need to create an illusion of depth in this mural, the painting is not realistic and therefore the perspective needs to be spot on. Especially when the client is Sunway’s Virtual Design & Construction team.

We being by pulling strings for the sketching process. We’ve only used this technique for this particular job cuz it calls for perfection.

The style for this project is more of a watercolor sketch with pencils. To simulate this on the wall is challenging.

If you look carefully, the staircase in the art extends into the carpet of the office. Just look at the middle lines.

The wall mural was rushed for this department’s opening launch.

I think this our first mixed media wall mural. A great learning experience really.

At this point, we were really dreading pulling lines for each and every perspective line. It gotta be done for the effect that we want to achieve though and the result was worth it.

Here are some more angles for you to enjoy. :)

The department were supposed to build staircases like about 2 or 3 levels of them and make it assimilate into the painting but they never got to it. :(

More updates soon!
